Connecting Talent with Opportunity: Highlights from the Spring 2024 Career Fair at AirPark Columbus College Campus

The AirPark Columbus College Campus was thrilled to host 53 local, regional and global  employers across healthcare, education, engineering, manufacturing, accounting, information technology, social services, and law enforcement.

The event took place in the Columbus Learning Center on April 4, 2024, inviting students from Ivy Tech Community College, Indiana University Columbus, and Purdue Polytechnic Institute to meet employers offering roles within their areas of study and career interests.

The Spring 2024 Career Fair was the second career-focused event of this school year, following the Fall 2023 Internship & Career Fair. On November 8, representatives from 38 local, regional and global employers shared their company culture and open roles to students in every program. Many of those employers returned for the Spring 2024 event, knowing that a campus presence is essential in building local talent pipelines. As was shared by a global manufacturing employer with local presence, “Now that we know what is going on at the AirPark campus, we are shifting our talent acquisition efforts to include more local sourcing.”

Indiana University Columbus was present to share higher education opportunities on campus; the Indiana Small Business Development Center’s Michael Fulkerson shared new business development support services in the region; the United States Air Force came to connect with highly-capable and talented local students interested in their more than 200 active duty career fields and reserve, civilian, and auxiliary service opportunities.

Career Development Workshops hosted by Elwood Professionals & AirPark Career Services

In conjunction with our Spring 2024 Career Fair, we successfully hosted two Career Development Workshops designed to support our students’ employment readiness.

Launchpad: Resume Building & Networking (March 13, 2024)
This workshop kicked off with a presentation on crafting impactful resumes, preparing references, and creating elevator pitches. Attendees were then divided into groups for hands-on resume assistance and engaged in practical interview scenarios. The session emphasized realistic expectations for networking opportunities and provided tailored guidance for both hybrid and in-person settings.

Mastering Interview Skills (April 16, 2024)
Following the career fair, we held a focused session on advanced interview techniques. The workshop began with a quick overview of effective interviewing, including demonstrations of good versus bad interview practices. Recruiters conducted mock interviews across ten varied job roles, offering personalized feedback to enhance our students’ interviewing prowess for specific industries.
